This busy professional family of four loved their 1910 Queenslander but had outgrown its original layout. They wanted more space, better functionality, and a home that honoured its heritage charm, while supporting the pace and rhythm of modern family life.

Working within Brisbane’s strict Character Code, the design had to respect the home’s original façade while reimagining the spaces behind it. The brief extended beyond just raising and building in, it was about seamlessly integrating old and new. 

We led the design process through our Signature Design Experience, carefully navigating heritage overlays and engineering requirements. Through thoughtful spatial planning, careful curation of heritage detailing, and a refined selection of materials and fixtures, we brought clarity to complex decisions and ensured every element aligned with the family’s lifestyle and the building’s legacy.

The result is a grand family home that feels both timeless and tailored. A statement ceiling anchors the main living space, adding a sense of occasion without overpowering the original architecture. The new lower level provides flexible, future-ready spaces for guests and storage, while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic that flows naturally from old to new.
