This inner-city Queenslander had been in the same family for generations. Rich in history, needing a modern touch. The young professional owner wanted to honour that legacy while creating a home that felt fresh, functional, and easy to maintain. The goal: restore the charm, simplify the upkeep, and introduce a calm, contemporary feel that supported her busy lifestyle.

Working with a 1910 Queenslander meant navigating strict Character Code requirements and sensitive construction constraints. The home sat close to the boundary, triggering fire rating conditions on one side, and required restoration of the front façade to its original form. The challenge was to seamlessly blend modern style with heritage integrity, creating a cohesive look that met compliance and still felt current.

We led the design journey from early concept through on-site delivery, orchestrating each decision to ensure practicality and preservation worked hand in hand. We redefined the interior with a focus on liveability, storage, and low-maintenance design. Each modern intervention was balanced by a deep respect for the home’s architectural history.

A neutral, timeless palette brought a sense of lightness and calm, while subtle detailing paid homage to the original craftsmanship. The layout was optimised for function, with a dedicated home office, abundant built-in storage, and durable, low-maintenance finishes throughout. Every space was carefully considered to deliver comfort and flow, without expanding the home’s original footprint.

The result is a beautifully balanced transformation that feels both new and nostalgic. The home now celebrates its heritage roots while embracing modern living. Fresh, functional, and perfectly suited to its current owner’s lifestyle.
